Tsunami Update

Again, the Murphy family is fine. Thanks so much for the prayers and kind thoughts.

As of this hour, it appears the on-island death toll is 24.... though numbers are still preliminary. Please continue to pray for the families of those who lost loved ones. Western Samoa is reporting at least another 55 deaths. While driving home at 4 pm, I could still see trucks carrying corpses to the hospital.

Pago harbor and Leone seem to have taken the brunt of the damage (at least as it pertains to our island). I've posted more pics on Facebook, which you should be able to view even if you do not have a Facebook account.

The destruction could have been much worse. Thankfully, it's been very dry the past several days/weeks. Had it rained considerably over the past several days, the earthquake would have caused a great deal more damage than it did. As it stands, the majority of the damage was caused by the tsunami, not the direct impact of the earthquake.

As for the Murphy family, our house sits high on a volcano, and we were safe and sound, until the volcano erupts.

Praise God for you and your family. When I turned on the morning news (5:45am EST) and saw the reports, I told my wife to start praying you and your family.

We will continue to lift up the affected lives on the island. Let us know how we can help.

Ironically, I was on the ocean (Atlantic) last night just off the coast, fishing, and remarking on how beautiful and alive the ocean is. It also has a deadly aspect to it as well.

Glad to hear that you and your family are fine. I just heard about it on the news and realized that I knew someone who lived there. I had to search Keva's blog to find yours. Prayers are definately coming your way.
